Malting Barley Opportunity

Hobsons Brewery, based in Cleobury Mortimer have teamed up with leading Land Agents John Amos & Co from Leominster to source malting barley for it’s brewing process.

 
Brewers need good quality barley for malting as an essential part of the brewing process. Using about 3 tonnes per week, the brewery are keen to source supplies from within Shropshire.
 
A particular variety, Maris Otter has been the king of malting barley for many years and seed specialists Robin Appel Ltd are keen to join the quest for ‘home grown’ stock.
 
John Amos & Co who are well known to the farming community plan to host farmers’ meetings later this Spring to explain the benefits to interested & potential growers.
 
Although Maris Otter is considered an ‘old fashioned’ variety, the unrivalled quality for malting means that the crop commands a premium price.
